The Challenge
The organisation had a strong commitment to inclusion and client voice, with inclusive practices embedded across service delivery and workplace culture. However, governance structures had not evolved at the same pace. Key governance and organisational challenges included:
These challenges posed risks to board effectiveness, governance maturity, and long-term sustainability, particularly in a sector facing increasing expectations around inclusive governance and regulatory accountability.
Our Approach
We delivered a structured, evidence-based governance review aligned to best practice in not-for-profit governance and disability inclusion. The engagement followed a three-phase methodology:
1. Diagnostic Assessment - Governance document review (policies, board skills matrix, advisory structures) and needs assessment workshop with the executive team.
2. Stakeholder Engagement & Discovery - Focus groups and interviews with staff, board directors and advisory members to identify systemic barriers and governance strengths.
3. Strategic Roadmap Development - Developing a practical, board-level governance roadmap that aligned with Australian and international best practice in inclusive governance.
This approach ensured a data-driven, participatory process that captured both structural issues and lived experience insights.
The Solution
We delivered a comprehensive governance review with detailed diagnostic report, clear, actionable recommendations and a 12 month implementation roadmap.
The Impact
Not-for-profit organisations are under increasing pressure to demonstrate strong governance, diversity and inclusion at board level, particularly in the social services sector. This review highlighted a consistent theme across stakeholders: a strong foundation already existed, but greater structure and accountability were required to translate intent into outcomes.
The organisation demonstrated genuine commitment to inclusion, with the opportunity to strengthen impact through a more deliberate, organisation-wide governance strategy.
Critically, the organisation moved from informal inclusive practice to a deliberate, measurable governance strategy, positioning it for long-term impact and sector leadership.
A structured, evidence-based governance review of a large aged and disability not-for-profit with a strong commitment to inclusion and client voice.
Outcome: A 12 month governance roadmap to embed disability inclusion at board and leadership level.
The Challenge
A capable leader was seeking progression into senior executive roles but faced barriers common in the sector including low confidence in executive recruitment processes and difficulty clearly articulating leadership capability in interviews. Without targeted support, these barriers limited access to career progression opportunities, despite strong underlying capability.
Our Approach
Natasha delivered a practical executive readiness program delivered through a two-phase approach tailored to the individual's goals and lived experience. The program was delivered in a hybrid of online and in-person sessions.
Phase 1 – Clarity and Direction (Sessions 1–3):
Phase 2 – Confidence and Performance (Sessions 4–6):
The Impact
Many not-for-profit organisations struggle to build diverse executive pipelines, not due to lack of talent, but due to systemic barriers in recruitment and leadership development. Targeted, inclusive leadership coaching enables organisations to unlock untapped leadership capability, strengthen executive readiness and improve representation and decision-making at senior levels.
The program translated directly into real-world outcomes including a significant increase in confidence applying for senior roles, improved ability to clearly articulate leadership capability and stronger performance in virtual and in-person interviews for this individual.

The Challenge
A regional member-based association sought to strengthen the governance and management capability of its members and broader community. The organisation aimed to deliver a governance building blocks program focused on building community resilience, better decision-making, and organisational capability in the face of increasing drought risk.
Key challenges included:
Without targeted support, these gaps created risks to organisational sustainability, governance effectiveness and community resilience.
Our Approach
We partnered with the association to design and deliver a practical, accessible governance training program of four workshops:
Each session focused on plain language, practical application and real-world relevance, incorporating examples of both good and poor governance practice. The approach prioritised knowledge transfer with immediate application, ensuring participants could directly apply learnings within their organisations and businesses.
The Solution
The program delivered a structured governance capability-building framework that included clear guidance on the legal and governance responsibilities of boards, practical tools and simplified approaches to strategic planning and foundational knowledge in financial literacy.
Content was intentionally kept simple, structured and actionable, enabling participants to build confidence quickly and apply skills in real time.
The Impact
Regional communities face increasing pressure from climate variability, financial uncertainty and workforce constraints. Strong governance at both community and organisational level is critical to making sound decisions during periods of stress, ensuring sustainable operations and supporting long-term resilience and growth.
The governance training delivered measurable improvements in capability and confidence including:
This project demonstrates that targeted, practical governance training can significantly improve decision-making capability and strengthen resilience across the community.
